The History of Our Preschool

The Cooperative Preschool of Bay Village was started in 1956 and moved to the Bay United Methodist Church in 1965. We are a non-denominational, non-profit organization. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services licenses our schools. Cooperative Preschools are rare and unique because the members are actively involved in the ownership and operation of the school.

Why Choose a Cooperative Preschool?

Our preschool recognizes parents are the primary educators of their young child, In a cooperative, preschool, parents and teachers work together for everyone's benefit. Parents learn new techniques and gain confidence from each other as they face the challenges of raising children. Children receive the best from both parents and teachers.

A cooperative preschool is owned and operated by the parents. All members make the rules and assume the financial and administrative responsibilities of the school. Moms and dads participate in class on a rotating basis. This requires a commitment of both time and labor, but the rewards are great.

Children benefit significantly from parent's involvement in their initial school experience. Cooperatives help establish a close parent-teacher relationship. Parents obtain a deeper and more detailed knowledge of what takes place in the classroom.

How Does a Cooperative Preschool work?

The Cooperative Preschool of Bay Village has two classrooms. We have classrooms for three year olds and four year olds. There is a morning program which runs from 9:30-11:45am and an afternoon program which runs from 1:00-3:15pm. Our school has three school days each week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Each classroom has a very small student to teacher ratio and in addition to having highly qualified and experienced teachers in each room, there is also a parent helper each school day. For each month of the school year, there is a calendar of school days and parents are assigned approximately one day to help out every 4-6 weeks.
